The sea is not the place for improvisation. These instructions apply to all passengers and especially to operators of boats without a skipper.
1. Before departure
- The team checks weather, sea state, basic safety equipment and route suitability before each departure.
- Every vessel must carry the life-saving and fire-fighting equipment required for its category and navigation permit.
- Passengers must be briefed on life jackets, handholds, basic onboard behaviour, ladder/swim platform use and emergency procedure.
2. During navigation
- Passengers remain seated when the boat is moving at speed or whenever requested by the skipper/operator.
- Do not place hands or feet outside the vessel, stand on the bow while moving or move suddenly around the boat.
- Speed must always match weather, waves, traffic, visibility, swimmers and distance from shore.
- The operator must maintain safe distances from swimmers, beaches, rocks, buoys, fishing gear and other vessels.
3. Swimming and stops
- Nobody enters the water before permission is given by the skipper or operator.
- The engine must be off when passengers swim near the boat or use the ladder.
- Children, inexperienced swimmers and anyone requesting it should wear a life jacket or suitable flotation aid.
- Diving is prohibited in unknown waters, shallow areas, near rocks or near the propeller.
4. Extra rules for bareboat use
- The operator must stay within the permitted cruising area, maximum distance from shore and instructions given during the briefing.
- Night navigation, towing, water sports, racing, dangerous manoeuvres or entry into ports/areas not expressly allowed are prohibited.
- The operator must continuously monitor fuel, weather, waves, depth, other vessels and passenger condition.
- When in doubt, the correct decision is simple: slow down, move away from danger and contact the company or authorities.
5. Health, sun and comfort
- Passengers should bring water, sun protection, a hat and any personal medication they need.
- Pregnancy, serious heart/respiratory conditions, recent injuries or severe seasickness should be declared before departure.
- Alcohol consumption must remain limited. The operator must not be under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
6. Emergency
- In an emergency, follow the skipper/operator’s instructions and avoid panic.
- For urgent help in Greece, 112 and the Hellenic Coast Guard line 108 may be used depending on the case and network availability.
- For bareboat use, the operator must contact Trips On The Sea immediately and, if human life or navigation safety is at risk, the competent authorities.
